Do It Yourself Bathroom Remodeling
Out of all the spaces in the home, none are as personal, practical, or important as the bathroom. In the bathroom, you think, refresh, and prepare for the day ahead. They are also a place to prepare for bed and think about the day that has just passed.
Since bathrooms are used for so many purposes, even for multiple individuals, choosing a bathroom design is very important and challenging. It’s also a fun opportunity to change what is often a small room that is taken for granted into a wonderful room to suit your most important needs.
First, make the best use of the space available. Not many people have the opportunity to build a bathroom as large as they might want. In new home construction, a budget often limits how much space can be selected for a bathroom.
The height and size of the bathroom user can determine how high medicine cabinets, shelves, and under sink storage should be. They can often be relocated higher or around a corner. That can free up valuable counter space for shaving, makeup application, and so on. Many medicine cabinet designs, for example, extend onto the counter a few inches.
Often, six to eight inch shelves are placed at chest or chin height in a high traffic area. Less used items, such as spare towels or perfume bottles are stored here. For shorter members of the household, have a collapsible stepstool on hand.
Maximize Your Bathroom Remodeling Dollars
Cost is always a limiting factor, but there are two ways to maximize your dollars. One way is to choose higher quality materials and accept a higher opening expense. The longer use will make the average cost per year the same as using the shorter life spanned low-quality materials. If that's not feasible, plan the design so that lower quality materials can be easily replaced every couple of years. For large bathroom mirrors whose moulding will tarnish, use screws with L-shaped hooks.
Most of the time, people buy low-quality small fixtures. The truth is, these are just as important as the larger ones, so buy high-quality ones. Choose a quiet fan, since a noisy fan will quickly become annoying Lights that don't sit at the right angle or are too bright will produce frustration every time they are used.
Make sure you allow a good percentage of the budget for quality shower components. If you buy low-quality shower fixtures, they could easily become broken and cause leaks. A small behind-the-tile leak can lead to weeks without a shower, increased insect invasion, and highly expensive repairs.
